Canceling Amazon Prime Video takes about two minutes if you know where to look. This guide walks you through canceling the standalone Prime Video subscription, plus what to do if your Prime Video access is bundled with a full Amazon Prime membership.
Before You Start
First, figure out which subscription you actually have. Amazon offers two different things:
- Prime Video (standalone): A video-only subscription at $8.99/month.
- Amazon Prime: The full membership that includes Prime Video, free shipping, and other perks at $14.99/month or $139/year.
If you have full Amazon Prime and cancel it, you lose Prime Video too. If you only want to drop the video part, canceling the standalone Prime Video subscription is the right move. Sign in on a desktop browser for the smoothest experience.
How to Cancel Standalone Prime Video
- Go to primevideo.com and sign in.
- Hover over your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Click Account & Settings.
- Select the Your Account tab.
- Under Your Channels and Subscription Settings, find the Prime Video line.
- Click End Subscription (or Cancel Subscription).
- Confirm your choice on the next screen. Amazon will offer a pause or a discount — skip these if you want to fully cancel.
You should see a confirmation message and receive an email within a few minutes. Keep that email in case you need proof later.
How to Cancel Full Amazon Prime (Which Includes Prime Video)
If your Prime Video access comes from a full Prime membership, you'll cancel through the Prime management page instead.
- Go to amazon.com/prime and sign in.
- Hover over Account & Lists in the top-right, then click Prime Membership.
- Click Manage Membership on the right side.
- Select End Membership.
- Amazon will walk you through three or four screens trying to keep you. Click through each one until you see a final confirmation.
- Choose either End Now (for a prorated refund if eligible) or Remind Me Later / End on [date] to keep access until your renewal date.
Check whether your purchase is still within the return window.
Refund Rules
Amazon's refund policy depends on whether you've used the service since your last renewal.
| Situation | Refund Eligibility |
|---|---|
| Canceled within 3 days of signup, no benefits used | Full refund |
| Paid annually, no benefits used since renewal | Full refund of current period |
| Paid annually, benefits used | Prorated refund based on time and usage |
| Paid monthly, benefits used | No refund, access continues until period ends |
| Free trial canceled before end date | No charge |
"Benefits used" means anything from watching a show to using free shipping. Even a single stream during the current billing month usually voids a monthly refund.
If you're on an annual Prime plan and haven't used any benefits, cancel through End Membership and request a full refund on the final screen. Amazon often approves these automatically.
Canceling Through Prime Video Channels
If you subscribed to a third-party channel through Prime Video (like Paramount+, Starz, or MGM+), each channel is billed separately and must be canceled separately.
- Go to Account & Settings on Prime Video.
- Open the Channels section.
- Click Cancel Channel next to the one you want to drop.
- Confirm cancellation.
You keep access to that channel until the current billing period ends.
Canceling on Mobile
The Prime Video app doesn't always show cancellation options directly. Your best bet is to open a mobile browser, go to primevideo.com, and request the desktop site. Then follow the same steps as above.
If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you'll need to cancel through your device's subscription settings instead of through Amazon.
Common Problems
"End Subscription" button is missing. You're probably looking at a full Amazon Prime membership, not a standalone Prime Video plan. Go to amazon.com/prime instead.
Amazon keeps offering discounts. These pop-ups appear on almost every cancellation. Click Continue to cancel or End membership on each screen until you hit final confirmation.
Charged after canceling. Check the cancellation email date against the charge date. If you canceled mid-period, the last charge still stands but no future ones should hit. Contact Amazon Customer Service for disputes.
Subscribed through a third party. If you signed up via Roku, Apple, or Google, you have to cancel through that platform's subscription settings, not Amazon.
Confirming Your Cancellation
After canceling, go back to Account & Settings > Your Account. The Prime Video line should now say something like "Your subscription will end on [date]" instead of showing a next-charge date. Screenshot this page if you want a record.
