Cancelling DeepL Pro is a self-service process handled entirely inside your account. This guide walks you through the exact clicks, what happens to your translation history, and how to avoid being billed for the next cycle.
Before You Start
You'll need the email and password for the DeepL account tied to the paid plan. If your company pays for DeepL Pro through a team or business account, only the admin (the person listed as the account owner) can cancel the subscription.
If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you can't cancel on deepl.com. You'll need to manage the subscription through your Apple ID or Google Play account instead.
How to Cancel DeepL Pro Online
- Go to deepl.com and log in to your account.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Account from the dropdown menu.
- Open the Plan tab on the left side of your account page.
- Scroll down and click Cancel plan.
- Pick a reason for cancelling if prompted, then click Confirm cancellation.
- Check your inbox for a confirmation email from DeepL. Keep it in case you need proof later.
Once you confirm, your plan switches to a "cancelled" state but stays active until the last day of your paid period. After that date, your account automatically drops to the free tier.
Track your trial deadline and cancel before you get charged.
Cancelling a DeepL Mobile Subscription
If you signed up through the DeepL iOS or Android app, the cancellation happens in the app store, not on DeepL's website.
iPhone or iPad:
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select DeepL and tap Cancel Subscription.
Android:
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.
- Tap DeepL, then Cancel subscription.
Cancellation Timing and Refunds
DeepL bills in advance, either monthly or yearly. When you cancel, you keep access for the rest of that prepaid term. There's no partial refund for the unused portion once the term has started.
| Situation | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Cancel monthly plan | Access continues until the end of the current month |
| Cancel annual plan | Access continues until the end of the paid year |
| Cancel within 14 days (new EU customers) | May be eligible for a full refund under EU withdrawal rules |
| Cancel a free trial | Access ends immediately or at trial end, no charge |
EU and UK customers have a 14-day right of withdrawal after signing up. If you're inside that window and haven't used the service heavily, contact DeepL support to request a refund.
Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. DeepL processes renewals early on the due date, and a cancellation submitted the same day may not stop the charge.
Downgrading Instead of Cancelling
If you like DeepL but want to spend less, you can switch to a cheaper tier instead of cancelling entirely. Go to Account > Plan, click Change plan, and pick Starter or Advanced. The switch usually takes effect at your next renewal, so you'll keep your current features until then.
You can also pause use by cancelling and continuing on the free plan, which gives you limited translations without a monthly fee.
What Happens to Your Data
Your account, translation history, saved glossaries, and CAT tool integrations stay in place after you cancel. You just lose the Pro benefits like unlimited text translation, document editing, and team seats.
If you want your account and data deleted entirely, you'll need a separate deletion request. Go to your account settings and use the account deletion option or contact DeepL support directly.
Common Problems
"Cancel plan" button is missing. You're probably logged into the free account, not the paid one. Sign out and log back in with the email that receives the DeepL invoices.
You were charged after cancelling. Check whether the charge date is before or after your cancellation confirmation. If DeepL charged you after a confirmed cancellation, reply to your confirmation email or reach out through DeepL support with a copy of the receipt.
Team plan cancellation not working. Only the admin can cancel a team subscription. Individual users can be removed from a team, but the plan itself has to be cancelled by the owner.
Can't find the subscription in the App Store. Look under Apple ID > Subscriptions for the exact name "DeepL Translate." Cancelling here also stops the charge, but your account on deepl.com stays intact.
