Cursor Pro gives you unlimited AI completions and premium model requests, but if you're switching editors or cutting back on tools, canceling is quick. This guide walks you through the exact clicks, what happens to your access after canceling, and how refunds work.
Before You Start
Make sure you're signed in with the same account that holds the Pro subscription. If you pay through a team or business plan, only the workspace admin can cancel. Have your payment method handy in case Cursor asks you to verify identity.
Canceling stops future charges but doesn't delete your account or your local editor. You can keep using Cursor on the free Hobby plan afterward.
Step-by-Step: Cancel Cursor Pro Online
The fastest way to cancel is through your dashboard. Cursor routes billing through Stripe, so the final cancel button lives inside the Stripe customer portal.
- Go to cursor.com and sign in with the email tied to your Pro subscription.
- Click your profile icon in the top right and open the Dashboard.
- Select the Settings tab, then find the Billing or Subscription section.
- Click Manage Subscription. This opens the Stripe-hosted billing portal in a new tab.
- Click Cancel Plan (or Cancel Subscription) next to your active Pro plan.
- Confirm the cancellation. Stripe will show your final access date.
- Check your email for a cancellation confirmation from Stripe or Cursor.
If you don't see the Manage Subscription button, refresh the page or try a private browser window. Ad blockers sometimes hide the Stripe iframe.
Check whether your purchase is still within the return window.
Cancel From Inside the Cursor Editor
You can also reach billing directly from the desktop app:
- Open Cursor on your computer.
- Click the gear icon (Settings) in the top right.
- Choose Manage next to your account tier.
- This launches your browser and lands you on the same dashboard billing page as above.
- Follow steps 4 through 7 from the previous section.
What Happens After You Cancel
Your Pro features stay active until the end of the period you already paid for. After that date, your account automatically downgrades to the free Hobby plan. You keep your settings, chat history, and installed extensions.
Here's a quick breakdown of what changes:
| Feature | Pro (Before Cancel) | Hobby (After Cancel) |
|---|---|---|
| Premium model requests | 500 fast/month | 50 slow/month |
| Completions | Unlimited | 2,000/month |
| Access to Claude & GPT-4 | Yes | Limited |
| Long context mode | Yes | No |
| Price | $20/mo | Free |
Refund Policy
Cursor's standard policy is that cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing cycle, and partial refunds aren't automatic. That said, if you canceled shortly after being charged or hit a genuine billing issue, support does grant refunds case by case.
To request one, email hi@cursor.com or use the in-app support chat within 14 days of the charge. Include your account email, the charge date, and a short reason. Read the official cancellation and refund help page for the current terms.
Cancel a Business or Team Plan
Business plans work slightly differently. Only the workspace owner sees the cancel option, and canceling affects every seat.
- Sign in and open your Team Dashboard.
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- Click Manage Subscription to open Stripe.
- Choose Cancel Plan and confirm.
- Notify your team so they can save any work tied to Pro-only features.
Common Problems and Fixes
"Manage Subscription" button is missing. You may be logged in with a different email than the one paying. Sign out and back in with the billing account.
Stripe portal won't load. Disable browser extensions or try a private window. Corporate networks sometimes block Stripe iframes.
You were charged after canceling. Forward the receipt to hi@cursor.com. If the cancellation was submitted before the renewal date, they'll refund it.
You want to pause, not cancel. Cursor doesn't offer a pause option. Cancel now and resubscribe when you're ready. Your usage history stays on your account.
App still shows Pro features. Sign out of Cursor and back in to refresh your license status.
If You Just Want to Reduce the Cost
Before canceling outright, check whether the annual plan (billed yearly at a discount) or the Hobby free tier fits your usage. Downgrading inside the Stripe portal is faster than canceling and starting over later.
