Hulu makes cancelling reasonably painless, especially compared to some streamers. You can do the whole thing from a browser in about two minutes, and you'll keep watching until your paid period ends.
This guide covers cancelling a Hulu plan you pay for directly. If you signed up through a third party like Roku, Amazon, or Disney Bundle, the steps are different, and we'll cover those too.
Before You Start
A few things worth checking first:
- Know where you signed up. Hulu can only be cancelled through the same platform you used to subscribe. If you pay through the App Store, Google Play, Roku, or Amazon, Hulu itself can't cancel it for you.
- Have your login ready. You'll need your Hulu email and password. If you forgot the password, reset it before starting.
- Note your billing date. Your cancellation takes effect at the end of the current cycle, so time it if you want to squeeze in one more month.
Cancel Hulu on the Website
This is the fastest method and works for most subscribers who signed up directly with Hulu.
- Go to Hulu.com and log in.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Account from the dropdown menu.
- You may be asked to re-enter your password. Do that.
- Scroll down to the Your Subscription section.
- Click Cancel next to your plan.
- Hulu will try to offer you a pause (up to 12 weeks) or a discount. If you still want out, click Continue to Cancel.
- Confirm by clicking Cancel Subscription on the final screen.
You'll get a confirmation email within a few minutes. Keep it in case anything gets billed after your end date.
Track your trial deadline and cancel before you get charged.
Cancel Hulu Through Third-Party Billing
If your Hulu charge comes from Apple, Google, Roku, or Amazon, you need to cancel through that provider instead.
| Billed Through | Where to Cancel |
|---|---|
| Amazon | Amazon.com > Account & Lists > Memberships & Subscriptions |
| Apple / iTunes | Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions |
| Comcast Xfinity | Sign in to your Xfinity account or contact Xfinity support |
| Disney / Disney+ | DisneyPlus.com > Profile > Account > Subscription > Cancel Subscription |
| Google Play | play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions |
| Kroger | Sign in to your Kroger account > Membership or Subscriptions |
| HBO Max / Max | Max.com > Profile > Subscription > Manage Subscription |
| Optimum | Sign in to your Optimum account or contact Optimum support |
| Roku | Roku.com > My Account > Manage Your Subscriptions |
| Spotify | Spotify account page > Manage Plan > Cancel Subscription |
| T-Mobile | T-Life app or T-Mobile account > Manage Add-ons and Subscriptions |
| Verizon | My Verizon app or Verizon.com > Account > Services & Perks |
| Disney Bundle | Cancel through DisneyPlus.com or the original billing provider |
If you're not sure who bills you, check your credit card statement. The charge descriptor tells you which platform to use.
Cancel the Disney Bundle
If you subscribed to the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundle, cancelling Hulu on its own isn't possible without dropping the bundle. You'll need to go to your Disney+ account and cancel the bundle there, then resubscribe to any single service you want to keep.
What Happens After You Cancel
You keep watching until your billing period ends. Nothing gets cut off mid-month.
- Your profile and watch history stay saved for up to 12 months in case you resubscribe.
- Downloaded content on the Hulu app becomes unavailable once the account expires.
- Live TV DVR recordings are deleted when your Hulu + Live TV cycle ends.
- Add-ons like HBO Max, Showtime, or Starz cancel automatically along with your base plan.
If you're mid-way through a free trial, cancel a day or two before it ends. Hulu bills the moment the trial closes, and refunds are rare.
Pause Instead of Cancel
Hulu lets you pause billing for up to 12 weeks. This is buried on the cancellation flow, but it's useful if you're travelling or just need a break. You won't be charged during the pause, and your profile stays intact. It restarts automatically after 12 weeks unless you extend or cancel.
Common Problems
"Cancel" button is missing. You're probably billed through a third party. Check the platform list above.
Got charged after cancelling. Look at the charge date. Hulu bills at the start of a cycle, so a charge right before your cancel date is normal and buys you the rest of the month. If it's clearly after your end date, contact Hulu Support via chat.
Can't log in. Reset your password at hulu.com/password/forgot before trying again. You cannot cancel by email or without account access.
Refund Policy
Hulu's stated policy is no refunds for partial months. That said, agents sometimes issue a courtesy refund if you cancel within a day or two of being billed and haven't watched anything. Contact live chat and ask politely.
For deleting your Hulu account entirely (not just cancelling billing), you'll need to submit a separate account deletion request through Hulu Support after cancellation.
