Midjourney bills monthly or yearly through Stripe, and you can end your subscription anytime from your account dashboard. This guide walks you through the exact cancellation flow, refund eligibility, and what happens to your generated images after you cancel.
Before You Start
You'll need access to the Discord account linked to your Midjourney subscription. If you signed up through the Midjourney website, that same Discord login is required to reach your billing page.
Also check your renewal date first. If you're close to it, cancel a day or two early to avoid an automatic charge, since Midjourney doesn't offer full refunds on renewed plans once you've generated images.
Cancel Midjourney on the Website
This is the fastest method and works for both monthly and yearly plans.
- Open midjourney.com/account in your browser.
- Click Sign In and authenticate through Discord.
- Scroll to the Manage Subscription section.
- Click Manage next to your current plan. This opens a Stripe-hosted billing portal.
- Select Cancel Plan and confirm your choice.
You should receive a confirmation email from Stripe within a few minutes. Keep it as proof, in case a charge appears later.
Cancel Midjourney Through Discord
If you can't reach the account page, you can trigger the same flow from Discord.
- Open any Midjourney channel or your DM with the Midjourney Bot.
- Type
/subscribeand press Enter. - Click Manage Account in the bot's response.
- Sign in when the browser opens, then follow steps 3–5 above.
Track your trial deadline and cancel before you get charged.
What Happens After You Cancel
Your subscription stays active until the end of the paid period. You keep full access to image generation, the web app, and your image library during that window.
After the period ends, your account converts to a free, read-only state. Your gallery stays visible on the Midjourney website, but you can't generate new images or use fast/relax hours unless you resubscribe.
Images you already created remain public in the Midjourney community feed under the Terms of Service, even after cancellation.
Getting a Refund
Midjourney's refund policy is strict but not impossible. You may qualify for a prorated refund if you've used less than 1% of your monthly fast hours or GPU minutes for the current billing cycle.
To request one, cancel first, then contact billing support at help.midjourney.com or email support directly from the account page. Include your Discord username, the charge date, and the last four digits of the card used.
| Situation | Refund Likely? |
|---|---|
| Cancelled within minutes of purchase, no images generated | Yes, full refund |
| Used less than 1% of fast hours this cycle | Yes, prorated |
| Used more than 1% of fast hours | No |
| Yearly plan, mid-year cancellation | Case-by-case, usually no |
| Duplicate or unauthorized charge | Yes, contact support |
Turn Off Auto-Renew on a Yearly Plan
Yearly subscribers follow the same steps. Cancelling stops the renewal at the end of your 12-month term, and you keep full access until that date. There's no penalty for cancelling early on an annual plan, you just don't get a refund for unused months.
Downgrade Instead of Cancelling
If the cost is the main issue, consider dropping to the Basic tier instead. From the same Manage Subscription panel, click Change Plan and pick a lower tier. The downgrade takes effect at your next billing date, and you keep any fast hours you've already paid for.
Common Problems
"Manage Subscription" button is missing. This usually means you're signed in with the wrong Discord account. Sign out of Discord in your browser, then sign back in with the account tied to your plan.
Charged after cancelling. Check the date on your cancellation confirmation email. If it's before the charge date, forward that email to Midjourney support and request a reversal.
Can't log in to the account page. Try an incognito window or clear your Discord cookies. Two-factor prompts sometimes fail in embedded browsers, so use Chrome, Firefox, or Safari directly.
Discord account was deleted or banned. Contact Midjourney support with your payment details, they can locate the subscription and cancel it manually.
Resubscribing Later
Your past images and prompt history remain tied to your Discord account. If you resubscribe within a year, everything comes back automatically, including your rated images and saved settings.
