Runway lets you cancel your paid plan directly from your account settings in the browser. There's no phone call, no email, and no waiting on support. Here's exactly where to click and what happens to your credits and projects afterward.
Before You Start
A few things worth checking first:
- You must cancel from the web app, not the mobile app or in-app purchase settings.
- If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you'll need to cancel through your device's subscription settings instead.
- Any unused monthly credits will remain available until your billing period ends. They don't roll over once you're on the free plan.
- Your generated videos, images, and assets stay in your account, but export limits and watermark rules on the Basic plan will apply going forward.
Step-by-Step: Cancel Runway on the Web
- Go to runwayml.com and sign in with the account tied to your subscription.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the dashboard.
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
- In the left sidebar, click Plans & Billing (sometimes labeled Subscription).
- Scroll to your current plan and click Cancel Plan.
- Runway will ask you to confirm and may show a retention offer or short survey. Complete it and click Confirm Cancellation.
- You'll get a confirmation email. Save it in case you need proof later.
Once canceled, your plan stays active through the paid period you already covered. After that, your account drops to the free Basic tier automatically.

How to Cancel if You Subscribed Through Apple or Google
If you originally signed up via the Runway iOS app, your subscription is billed by Apple, and you have to cancel through them.
On iPhone or iPad:
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Find Runway in the list.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
On Android (Google Play):
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.
- Select Runway.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Refunds and Billing Rules
Runway operates on a no-refund policy for partial billing periods. You keep access through the end of what you paid for, but you won't get money back for unused days.
| Situation | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Cancel monthly plan | Access continues until the end of the current month; no refund |
| Cancel annual plan | Access continues until the annual renewal date; no prorated refund |
| Accidental renewal | Contact support quickly. Refunds are case by case |
| Unused credits | Expire when your paid period ends |
| Downgrade instead of cancel | Takes effect at the next billing cycle |
If you were charged unexpectedly or hit a technical issue during cancellation, reach out through the Runway Help Center and open a support ticket.
If your goal is only to stop paying but keep access to your projects, canceling is the right move. Runway keeps your account and files on the free plan indefinitely.
Pause Instead of Cancel
Runway doesn't offer a formal pause option, but you can downgrade to a cheaper tier from the same Plans & Billing page. This is useful if you use Runway seasonally and want to keep more credits than the free plan allows without paying for Pro or Unlimited.
Common Problems
"Cancel Plan" button is missing or greyed out. You're probably on a team or enterprise plan where only the workspace owner can cancel. Ask the admin, or contact support if you are the admin.
You canceled but were still charged. Check the confirmation email. If cancellation went through before the renewal date and you were still billed, submit a refund request through the Help Center within a few days.
You can't find the subscription in your account. You may be signed into a different Runway account. Log out and log in with the email that receives the Runway billing receipts.
Team seats keep renewing. On team plans, you need to remove seats or cancel the whole workspace subscription from the Team settings, not just your own profile.
After Cancellation
Your account converts to the free Basic plan on the next billing date. You'll lose:
- Higher-resolution exports
- Watermark-free video generation
- Unlimited or expanded generation credits
- Custom voices, custom training, and pro-only tools
Your saved assets, projects, and history remain accessible. You can resubscribe at any time and pick up where you left off.
