Cancelling YouTube TV is one of the easier streaming cancellations out there. You can do it entirely online in about two minutes, and you'll keep watching until your paid month runs out. Here's the exact path and a few things to watch for, like DVR recordings and add-ons that don't always cancel automatically.
Before You Start
A few quick things to check so you don't lose access to something you wanted to keep:
- Know how you signed up. If you subscribed through Apple, Roku, or another third party, you'll need to cancel through that provider, not YouTube TV directly.
- Your DVR library sticks around for 21 days after cancellation in case you resubscribe. After that, recordings are permanently deleted.
- Any add-ons (like premium channels or 4K Plus) will cancel along with your base plan.
Cancel YouTube TV on the Web
The web is the most reliable place to cancel. The mobile app hides the option under a couple of extra taps.
- Go to tv.youtube.com and sign in with the Google account tied to your subscription.
- Click your profile picture in the top right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Click the Membership tab on the left.
- Next to your YouTube TV Base Plan, click Manage.
- Choose Cancel membership.
- Pick a reason if prompted, then click Continue canceling.
- Confirm by clicking Cancel membership on the final screen.
You should see a confirmation that your membership ends on a specific date. Google also sends a confirmation email to the address on your account. If you don't get one within a few minutes, check spam or repeat the steps to make sure the cancellation registered.
Track your trial deadline and cancel before you get charged.
Cancel YouTube TV in the Mobile App
If you can't get to a computer, the app works too, though the menus are slightly different.
- Open the YouTube TV app on your phone or tablet.
- Tap your profile picture in the top right.
- Tap Settings, then Membership.
- Tap Manage next to your Base Plan.
- Follow the prompts to cancel and confirm.
Cancel If You Signed Up Through Apple or Roku
Google doesn't manage billing when you subscribed through another platform, so the cancel button won't appear inside YouTube TV. You need to cancel where you're being charged.
| Signed Up Through | Where to Cancel |
|---|---|
| Apple / iTunes | iPhone Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions |
| Roku | Roku.com > My Account > Manage Subscriptions |
| Google Play (older signups) | Play Store > Subscriptions |
| YouTube TV directly | tv.youtube.com > Settings > Membership |
Not sure where you signed up? Check the receipt or billing statement for the charge. If it says Google or YouTube TV, cancel on the web. If it says Apple, Roku, or Google Play, cancel through that account.
Pausing Instead of Cancelling
If you just need a break, YouTube TV lets you pause your membership for 4 to 24 weeks. Your DVR recordings stay intact during the pause, and billing stops until service resumes.
To pause, follow the same steps to reach Settings > Membership, click Manage next to your Base Plan, and choose Pause membership instead of Cancel. Pick the length of the pause and confirm.
Pausing is a good move if you cancel mostly during sports offseasons or summer travel. You keep your DVR library and skip the resubscription hassle.
What Happens After You Cancel
- You keep full access to live TV, DVR, and add-ons until the end of your current billing cycle.
- No prorated refund is issued for the unused portion of the month.
- Your DVR library is preserved for 21 days. Resubscribe within that window and everything comes back.
- Family Sharing members lose access at the same time you do.
Common Problems
The Cancel button is grayed out or missing. This almost always means you subscribed through a third party. Check Apple, Roku, or Google Play.
You're still being charged after cancelling. Log back in and verify the membership shows an end date. If it doesn't, the cancellation didn't complete. Also check whether the charge is from an add-on billed separately or from a third-party billing source.
You want a refund for the last charge. YouTube TV generally does not refund the current billing period, but you can contact YouTube TV support through the Help menu inside your account to ask, especially if you were charged right before cancelling.
